How Will My
PG&E Information be Used?
All PG&E customers have access to the
detailed history of their energy consumption through their
online PG&E account. We require access to this detailed
information in order to build an accurate energy profile of your
home. Your electric energy use is recorded once an hour and your
natural gas use is recorded daily by smart meters installed by
PG&E. This level of detail allows us to create an accurate
energy profile of your home and recommend specific energy saving
actions.
Many customers have not activated their
online account but it is the easiest and most accurate way for
us to build your home energy profile. It takes less than 10
minutes, and you don't need to access it again if you don't want
to. Go to
the
PGE webpage to learn how to activate it. Once you create
your online PG&E account, you will use the same information
to log into Smart Audit.
Smart Audit doesn't currently support homes
with solar PV. PG&E smart meters record how much electricity
your home consumes but we have no way of determining how much
electricity your solar panels generated. We need to know how
much energy was consumed which is the combination of the
electricity your panels generated and the electricity recorded
by the smart meter. Please contact us if you would like to know
when we are able to support solar PV --

We will access your energy data to build an
energy use profile of your home. We do not use any data besides
your name, address, monthly totals and energy use data. We ask
you to confirm that the name and address on your PG&E
account matches the name and address of your house. We will
continue to access your energy use data for 5 years so we can
keep your home energy profile up-to-date. Your evolving home
energy profile will show how effective you've been in reducing
wasted energy.
PG&E's online web site hides all bank
account and credit card information so we have absolutely no
access to any of your financial information.
No one has access to your individual data
except you, HEA, PG&E and organizations you explicitly
authorize. We will access individual information for software
and algorithm testing purposes, but your name and address will
never be published or associated with a specific home energy
profile in public without your prior written consent. We will
aggregate energy savings data for different communities,
reports, and publications, but this data will never be traceable
to a particular home or user. We protect your personal
information in compliance with Title 20 of California's Code of
Regulations, Sections 2505(a)(5)(A) and (B); n.b.
2505(a)(5)(B)(8).
